July 29 1241 at Lanthony: Pardon to Richard Revel, clerk, for the death of Sibyl, daughter of John de Teokesbury, as it appears by inquisition made before Robert de Lexinton and his fellows, justices lately in eyre in the county of Gloucester, that he killed her by misadventure; on condition that he make peace with the friends of the said Sibyl, if any will proceed against him.

1255 May 22 at Clarendon: Commission to the abbot of Persore and William de Wilton to enquire touching various rumours that Robert le Vavassur, sometime sheriff of Nottingham and Derby, William le Yavassur, his son, Alexander do Wandesley, Richard de Troell, clerk, Adam de Estweyt, John Thedrich, Henry Revel, Simon le Porter and others of the household of the said Robert, misconducted themselves to the king's great loss in the works done in the castle of Nottingham, and in the works of the king's mills and fishing there, and in the keeping of the said castle and the hay of Bescwode, and in the bailiwicks which the said Robert held of the king: and touching the complaint of the prior of Lenton and others that the said Robert and the aforesaid persons besides others of his household did him grievous injuries while he was in the said bailiwick. The sheriff is to provide a jury and after the commissioners have sent the inquisition they are to appoint both complainants and trespassers a day to be before the king. Mandate to the sheriff to provide a jury. Afterwards William Trussel was associated with the said abbot and William. May 25.

1256: Whereas the king lately granted ta Henry de Mara a fee of 100 marks a year at the Exchequer, while in his service, and when in Gascony gave commandment to the queen and E. earl of Cornwall, guardians of the realm, to assign to the said Henry out of wards falling in land to that yearly value, and, in pursuance of that command they assigned to him the wardship of the manor of Cury Revel with the town of Langport and other appurtenances and the manor of Stoke, late of Sabina de Urtiaco ; and whereas the king afterwards, not knowing of the assignment, granted to his firstborn son Edward the wardship of all the lands late of the said Sabina; with the consent of his said son he confirms to the said Henry the said wardship, to hold for his said fee.

1256 Jan 24 at Windsor: Pardon, for a fine of 200 marks which Robert le Vavassur made, to the said Robert, William his son, Alexander de Wandesle, Walter de Ufton, John de Scarlet, Simon le Porter, Henry le Foun, William de Morton, Stephen de Shiple, Robert de Wike, "Henry Revel, John Yedrich, and William de Ufton, sometime bailiffs and ministers of the said Robert, of all trespasses in the forests, hays, woods, castles, manors, works and other bailiwicks and wardenships, which he held of the king to the day of the Conversion of St. Paul, 40 Henry III, and release to them of the king's rancour and indignation; on condition that they stand their trial in the king's court, according to law and the custom of the realm, touching trespasses committed against others than the king when the said Robert was sheriff of Nottingham and Derby or other bailiff of the king, if any will proceed against them.

1261: Notification that on 20 September, 1261, the king inspected a charter of Alexander son of the king of Scotland, earl Gilbert of Stradherne, earl Malcolm of Fife and William de Bosco, the chancellor, as follows :

1270 April 5 at Acre: Grant by Hugh Revel, master of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem and keeper of the poor of Christ, with the consent of the nobles of that house, to Stephen de Fulburn, prior and treasurer of the same house at London, on testimony by Roger de Veer, his prior, of his laudable behaviour, that he may hold to his own use, for life, all the posessions which he has acquired or may acquire by his prudence for their house as well as the mills of their house on the Thames, London, at a rent for the latter to his prior of 101. sterling.

1271 July 29 Westminster: Whereas the king of France has requested the king to cause the Westminster, wools of merchants of his land, which have been arrested within the realm by occasion of the contention between the king and the countess of Flanders, to be released, and to permit his said merchants to take them beyond seas, on condition that they do not sell them to Flemings or others of the power of the said countess ; and Matthew de Tolebugh, servant of William Michel, has sworn on the Gospel, for himself and the said Michel, that they will observe this condition ; the king has granted that they may take beyond seas 50 sacks of wool which were thus arrested and which they were able to shew that they had bought from others than men of Flanders or Hainault. And whereas the king by his council has ordained that if they attempt anything against their oath, they shall henceforth bring no merchandise in the realm on pain of forfeiting it, he forbids all men to impede the said Matthew in this ; until All Saints. The like for the following for the number of sacks of wool specified :— John Ryvel, the said king's merchant of Amiens, 15 sacks.

1290 June 16 Westminster: Pardon to John de Curi Revel for the death of Richard de Gorwell, as it appears by the record of Robert de Sancto Claro, Humphrey Kael, Richard de Mauneston and Ingram le Waleys, justices appointed to deliver the gaol of Somerton, that he killed him in self-defence.

1300 Dec 3 at Worksop: Extension to Geoffrey de Wyleby of Norwich, clerk, in consideration of a fine made by him before the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer, of a grant for life at 10s. a year, payable at the Exchequer, into a grant in fee simple at the same rent of a messuage and an acre of land in Norwich late of Henry le iiz le Chapeleyn of Norwich, extended at 3s., and a messuage there, late of Stephen le Bluud, extended at 2s., both of which escheated to the king by reason of their felony. By pet. of C. and inquisition. Letters for William Revel, gone to the court of Rome, nominating Frcmund Inge and Edmund Inge his attorneys for one year."

1303:Aug 28 Aberdeen: Pardon, at the instance of Robert de Monte Alto, to William le Burter, in consideration of his service in Scotland and elsewhere, and of his finding before the king in the Chancery, John Hawardyn of the county of Norfolk, and Walter Revel of the county of Suffolk, as his mainpernors to produce him before the justices of the Bench at York a fortnight after Easter to answer Peter de Thornedene, touching a plea that he render an account; for the time that he was receiver of the said Peter's moneys, of his late outlawry for non-appearance on that plea before the said justices.

1308: April 27 Reginald son of Reginald, going Beyond seas, has letters nominating John Revel and Roger de Wyk' his attorneys for one year.

1310 June 24 Canterbury: Licence for Henry de Urtiaco to grant to Geoffrey de Putteneye, clerk, his manors of Cury Ryvel and Langport, and the advowson of the church of Cury Ryvel, held in chief, and for the latter to re-grant them to him and Sibyl his wife and his heirs.

1310 0ct 6 Biggar: Protection, until Easter, for William Ryvel, going beyond seas on the king's service. By testimony of W. Inge.

1310 Oct 28 at Linlithgow: William Ryvel, going beyond seas on tbe king's service, has letters nominating Fremund Inge and Robert Ryvel his attorneys until Whitsunday.

1311 May 4: Protection, until Michaelmas, for William Ryvel staying beyond seas on the king's service. By the Chancellor

1313 June 28 Pontoise: Pardon to Robert de Ernesford and Richard and Thomas his sons of what pertains to the king of the imprisonment to which they had been sentenced in the court of King's Bench for divers trespasses against William Ryvel.

1317: Licence for Giles Ryvel the younger to grant in fee to Simon de Drayton 2 messuages, 2 tofts, 35 acres of land, 3 acres of meadow, 2 acres of pasture, 15s. of rent, and a rent of lib. of pepper in Stoke Goldington together with the advowson of a sixth part of the church of that place, held in chief as of the honor of Peverel, and also his reversion in 25 acres of land, 3 acres of meadow, 2 acres of pasture, and 20 acres of wood in the same town, which liobert de Morwell and Lucy his wife hold for life of the inheritance of the said Giles ; and also in a messuage, 2 tofts, 26 acres of land, ? acres of meadow, 4 acres of pasture, 20 acres of wood, and 10s. of rent in the same town, which Matilda late the wife of Miles de Hastinges holds in dower of his inheritance, also held in chief as of the honor of Peverel. By fine of half mark.

Note:Part of Stoke Goldington Manor was held by Miles Hastings until his death about 1305 when it passed to his grandson and heir Miles, son of Philip Hastings, died seised of it about 1311. The heirs were Giles Rivel, or Revel, son of Giles Rivel and of Isabel, sister of Miles, and two other sisters Alice wife of Thomas de Furneaux and Margery wife of Roger Boteler, Maud, widow of Miles, receiving dower. In 1317 Giles Rivel the younger obtained a licence to grant his interests in Stoke Goldington to Simon de Drayton.

1319 June 3 at York: The like to William de Bereford, John Chaynel, and John de Langeleye York. on complaint by Thomas Boyclyn of Stretton that John Ryvel of Fenny neubolde, Robert Ryvel of Buckeby, Richard de Miton, John de Gaytford, John Broun of Kypas, William Michel of Breydeston, Robert son of Geoffrey de Wylenhale, Andrew de Bylneye, chaplain, and Gerinus Normaund, with others, assaulted him at Bylneye, co. 1322 May 8 at York: Protection for Godekin de Revel , the elder, merchant of Almain, who is conveying victuals and other wares in his ships from parts beyond the seas to the realm for the sustenance of the king and his lieges in the North and of those coming to the North, the said Godekin having found security in the Chancery that he will not convey his goods elsewhere, or communicate with the king's enemies and rebels; nothing is to be taken of his goods against his will for the king's use. Provided always that he shall answer for his trespasses, if any, against the Staple of Wools. By mainprize of John de Stykeneye and Roger de la Gotere.

1324 May 18 Westminster: The like to John le Botiller of Lanultit, Robert de Aston and Adam Halnaked, on complaint by William de Ireby, prior of Hereford, that, wherejis the king had committed to the keeping of the said prior and John de Hampton the lands and goods late of Adam, bishop of Hereford, in that county and in the counties of Gloucester and Salop, whicb bad come into the king's hands by forfeiture of the bishop, and the said prior and John had come to Hereford and Ros to fulfil their office, the said bishop, William de Masinton, John Revel, Thomas de Wychyndon, chaplain, Walter le Fevre of Ros, John le Fevre of Hereford, Thomas le Keu of la Lee, and others, assaulted the prior divers times at Hereford and Ros, co. Hereford, and prevented him from executing his office.

1331 March 30 Eltham: Inspeximus and confirmation of a treaty, dated Paris, 9 March 1331, Eltham. agreed upon by Peter, bishop of Autun, Andri, bishop of Arras, John, bishop elect of Tirwan, Peter, abbot of Cluny, William de Seinte Maure, the chancellor, Guy Baudet and Reymond Saquet, clerks, Miles, lord of Noiers, William de Flote, lord of Revel and Peter de Coigners, knights, councillors of Philip king of France specially appointed to treat of peace, and Adam bishop of Worcester, William bishop of Norwich, William, count of Hainault, Henry de Percy and Hugh de Audeley, knights, and Master John de Shordieh, envoys and proctors of the king of England and duke of Guienne, as follows:

Les gents du roi de France disantz et proposantz encountre qe Lien et deuement avoient procede li dits comissaires et qe rien navoient 'fait contre le dit acord, et qe les adfornementz estoient faitz sur ce a bone cause pour ce qe le dit roi et due, son seneschal, ne ses gentz, navoient pas bien gardez le dit acord quant as ditz banniz, sicome Us disoient. Sur ce est ainsi acorde aimablement et pour bien de pats et de acord qe le dit roi et due et ses successours garderont et feront garder defait et effectuelement le dit acord * fait sur les banniz selon la forme diceli ou il est ainsi contenu3 acorde est qe ceux qe sont ja banniz ou seront pour trespas ou mesfaitz avenir par la court le roi de France ou par son parlement, ou par les seneschaux ou autres ojfficiaux du dit roi, en cas qe eux facent bannir asquns de leur souzmis ou autres pour trespas ou mesfaitz faitz en leur jurisdictions desore ne soient receptez ne retenuz en la duchee, mes nest mie lentencion des messages le roi Dengleterre qe par ceste acord les dits seneschaux eient poair de bannir les seneschaux ne autres officiaux ne ministres du dit roi Dengleterre pour nulle desobeissance mesfait ou trespas faits par eux en leur offices^ ne mil antre des souzmis du dit roi Dengleterre pur mesfait ou trespas fait en la ducliee^ combien qe le roi ou sa court le puissent faire en cas de souvereinete. Et nest pasauxl lentencion des tracteours deputez de par le roi de France qe par cest acord prejudice soit fait au roi de France ne a ses officiaux sur ces choses ou autres droits si ascuns li apertenoient, tant de droit come de custume, avant le temps de cest present acord. Et parmi cest acord le roi de France de sa grace ostera la dite peine, le dit ajornement et ce qi sen est ensui. Et est acorde qe, sans prejudice de lune par tie ne de lautre> il soit ensi quant as ditz commandemenz, requestes et inhibitions, impositions de peine, et ajornementz, et' ce qi sen est ensui, come si unqs ne eussent este faitz.
La tierce requeste estoit tiele qe come le roi de France eustfait ajorner le dit roi et due sur ce qil li demande seissante mille livres parisiennes dune part et cinquante mille marcs desterlings dautre pour certeines causes contenues es lettres sur cefaites en lacord desusdit fait entre les gentz des ditz rois soit acorde qe, en cas qe Ian troveroit par anciens pais ou autres obligations qe li rois de France soit temoz an roi Dengleterre en ascicne sume des deners, celesumeseroitrebatupar vole de compensation des deners demandez par le dit roi de France au dit roi, et de ce qe demeuroit, dune part ou dautre) seroit fait green deuewanere ; et Us eient, sicome Us disent, lettres et autres munimentz convenables par lesqueles Us volent monstrer les defies par lesqueles la dite compensation doit estre faite des ditz deners. Requeroient qe bon compte soit fait entre les gentz des ditz rois, et de ce qe demeura soit fait gre, dune part et dautre^ selon la forme du dit acord. Sur ceste requeste est ains' acorde qe les gentz du dit roi et due monstreront tantost les lettres ct munimentz par lesqueux Us voelent faire la dite compensation; et qc dautre part monstreront tantost les gentz du roi de France paiementz, quitances ou autres satisfaccons, sils les ount, et sera fait bon compte dune part et dautre^ et de ce qe demeura sera fait gre selon le dit acord.
