Woolhampton

There was a manor in Woolhampton, which was held in the 13th century by William Revel of Robert Achard by service of half a knight's fee. It seems to have passed to Ellis de St. Albans, rector of Wethersfield, before 1331.

Shingay

In the early 16th century the Hospitallers perhaps leased their land to farmers, and 5 men in Shingay were taxed on goods in 1524; there were also 4 wage labourers. From the early 17th century the lords of the manor leased their land, which was usually divided between 3 or 4 large farms. The later Manor farm was probably that leased to John Richford and later to Thomas Revell. Source:A History of the County of Cambridge and the Isle of Ely.

2.3.1729 Letter from John Cossen, Wimpole, to Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford, Dover Street, London; 2 Mar. 1728/9 Mentions enclosures relating to John Bouron's pay and Mr Johnson's health; writes that both Mr Johnson and Thomas Kettlewell are to come to London; mentions an unfounded rumour that Sir George Downing was to buy Shingay and Wendy; adds that Mr Revel the elder of Shingay has died. JOHN REVELL, of London, fishmonger. He was present 28 July, 1629; chosen an Assistant 29 October, 1629, and an Undertaker 10 December, 1629. He went to New England with Winthrop but returned immediately. He was the only "undertaker" included in the list of gentlemen to be written to in 1634. In a list of members of the Fishmongers Company of 1641 he is said to be resident in St. Nicholas Coleabbey; his membership of that company suggests that he was the "brother-in-law, Mr. John Revell, i.e., half- brother, who is mentioned by Michael Revell, fishmonger of St. Mary Magdalen, Fish Street, in his will proved 8 June, 1659. [P. C. C. 331 Pell.] He was a Plymouth Adventurer. Source: The Massachusetts Bay Company and Its Predecessors. Chap.16

Thomas Revell of Fetcham Park

Thomas Revell, Esq., of Fetcham Park, Surrey, M.P. for Dover and Commissioner of the Victualling Office, was one of John Russell's friends and correspondents.

Thomas Revell, was contractor for victualling the regiment of foot under the command of Gen. James Oglethorpe, in the province of Georgia. 1738-1744.

The book, contains letters and extracts about and from Thomas Revell, who in about 1751 was living at his country house at Fetcham with his daughter. He was parting from his wife...

Mr. Revell died in 1752, leaving by his third wife, Jane Egerton, one daughter, his sole heiress, who married Sir George Warren of Poynton Cheshire

Memo of Thomas Walpole requesting that he be awarded the contract for victualling the garrison at Gibraltar formerly held by the late Thomas Revell.1752 Apr. 22. Ref:National Archives T 1/350/35

Will of Thomas Revell, dated 6 Nov. 1751; proved at London on 17 Jan. 1754, includes amongst the bequests 300 guineas to Henry Pelham for a ring; also states that in the event of the death of all those to whom he has bequeathed his estate, he leaves three full fourth parts of his real estate to Henry Pelham (Earl of Lincoln ) and his heirs.

Thomas had a brother, Russell, who died 1752. He was probably the Russell Revell who was deputy to Henry, 7th Viscount, Lord Irwin (1691-1761), who sometime before June 1735 had succeeded Walter Bacon as Commissary General of Stores and Provisions in Minorca. His work was done by deputies on the spot (headquarters, Port Mahon) as he apparently remained at Temple Newsam.
