Ruth, daughter of William Swallow (d.1669) and his wife Anne of Brooksbank,Bradfield,Sheffield, married Thomas Revell (c.16 Jan 1641/42 Bradfield, died 5 May 1708), 1 Feb 1671/72 at Bradfield. Thomas and Ruth(nee Swallow) had a son, Thomas Revell Christened 26 Apr 1677 at Bradfield.

Sheffield Archives hold details of a Marriage Settlement:
1660 - Richard Swallow of Bull Cliffe, par. Sandall magna, Yorks., yeoman to Lewes West of Bretton als West Bretton, clerk, William Wadsworth of Falthwayre, par. Silkstone, Yorks., gent. On the marriage of Matthew Swallow, son of Richard, and Elizabeth Armytage, daughter of John Armytage of Dodworth, Yorks., yeoman. Messuage called Hollinhouse, par. High Hoyland, with all appurtenances. The lands to be held to the following uses:- the 6 closes called Fair Flatt, Stony lands, Long Heath, Round Heath, Joseph Heath and Little Heath, to the use of Mathew Swallow and Elizabeth, his espoused wife, for life, thereafter to legitimate heirs; the rest of the messuage to the use of Richard Swallow and Ann his wife, for life, to receive the yearly rent of £20 from Mathew Swallow, thereafter to the use of Mathew Swallow and his legitimate heirs.

Maria Parker, bapt. 8 November. 1765, mar. 3 Oct. 1793, to Richard Swallow, of Newhall, merchant

 

Richard Swallow (1729-1801) who took over the Attercliffe Forge in 1775-1776, a few years after the death of John Fell, pioneered the processing of crucible steel at these works, and the steel business founded at this time ultimately passed into the hands of the Sanderson Company. John Sanderson, Esq, merchant occupying New Hall after the death of Richard Swallow (about 1838).

Lease. Duke of Norfolk to Richard Swallow of Newhall The waterwork or forge called Wadsley Forge, with dams, etc. for 63 years. 1802.
Assignment of lease to Thomas Rawson, brewer, 1805.
Assignment by Hannah Rawson's executors to John Milnes and a number of others in equal shares and proportions as tenants in common. 1843.
Assignment by the survivors of the above tenants to William Henry Brown, iron and steel roller, previously of Storrs bridge works, now of Wardsend. 1850
Mortgages and subsequent assignment by Brown to Sir Ralph Howard. Further machinery having been installed and disputes having arisen the whole was listed in two schedules giving in great detail particulars of the machinery in the rolling mill, rod mill, etc. 1855.

Richard Swallow was declared bankrupt. In 1808, a meeting was arranged for sale by public Auction and private Contract to lands etc near Kimberworth, Richmond, Handsworth, Attercliffe and Darnall, Grenoside etc.
