George Westby, son of George Westby (d.1751) of Howarth Grange and Guilthwaite Hall, a captain in the Dragoon Guards, born 1740 died June 1790 inherited the estate of Howarth from his great aunt Dorcas Westby, who was married to John Laughton of Howarth.
Thomas Westby of Haworth married 30 10 1746 at Laughton-en-le-Morthen to Jane Beckwith, daughter of William Beckwith of Thurcroft. The archives hold details in a document dated 1758, which state Jane Westby,(nee Hatfield), 2nd wife and widow of Thomas Westby of Haworth.
