Alexander Hatfield, father of Ralph Hatfield of Laughton-en-le-Morthen married Isabella Shiercliffe, daughter of Alexander and Isobel, at Ecclesfield in 1558.
In 1591 Mr. Nicholas Sheirclyff along with William Dickenson were bailiffs of Sheffield under Gilbert, Earl of Shrewsbury
In 1616, Thomas Shiercliffe purchased the estate of the Parkers' and Whitley Hall continued to be their residence until the death of John Shiercliffe, with no male issue, in 1789.

In the south window of the south quire at Ecclesfield Parish Church were effigies of Thomas Shiercliffe, the master of the game in Hallamshire.
