Vincent of Braithwell and Barnbrough
John Vyncent was agent of Richard Duke of York for his Yorkshire property. For legal services rendered to the prior and convent of Lewes, he received a grant of a capital messuage called the Over hall in Braithwell. In 1427 John Vyncent was granted permission to build a hall to the west side of this building - Moat Hall.
John Vincent (1405-1461) married in 1428 to Agnes Barlow of Barlow, Derbyshire. They had a daughter Allison born at Braithwell in 1432 and a son John born in 1436. John (1405-1461) was killed, with the Duke, at the Battle of Wakefield.
John second son of John Vincent and Marjorie (Nee Page) married in 1558 at Bradfield, Sheffield to Margaret Hudson of Bradfield (1535-1588).
Richard Vincent of Firsby, born about 1555, a student of Gray's Inn,nephew of John and Margaret, married in 23 Sept. 1595 at Firsby to Elizabeth Rokeby, daughter of Thomas Rokeby of Hotham. Richard died 1617.
Their second son was Thomas Vincent of Snaith and Barnburgh who married Susan Bosville of Warmsworth, daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Wormeley, of Hatfield, widow of Gervase Bosvile, of Warmsworth, and was buried at Conisborough, 10 Dec., 1652.
Philip Vincent, author, was baptised on 23 Nov. 1600 at Firsby, Ravenfield, in Yorkshire. He was the third son of Richard Vincent (d 1617), and Elizabeth Rokeby, and grandson of Richard Vincent who served in the French wars and was a younger son of the family of Vincent of Braithwell. Philip was educated at Peterhouse, Cambridge. In 1625 he was presented by Sir Francis Vincent to the rectory of Stoke D'Abernon in Surrey, which he resigned on 17 Aug. 1629.
Early Charters of Braithwell
Isabella, daughter of Thomas Vincent of Barnburgh married Reverend Joseph Crompton of Normanton upon Soare, Nottinghamshire. They had at least one daughter, Isabella.
Mary and Ann Vincent of Doncaster spinsters, were daughters of John Vincent of Barneburgh who was deceased before 1722.

In default of heirs male to use of Edwd. Wilson for 500 yrs. in trust to raise £2,000 for any daughter or daughters of Geo.Nevile of Thorney & Catherine Vincent to be equally divided amongst them at 18 yrs. or marriage.

In consideration of marriage of Geo.Nevile & Catherine Vincent, agreed Geo. Nevile to get £2000, Henry Donston to sell estates in Barnborough and Melton, and pay George Nevile the balance of the £2000 and use the residue to purchase estates in England to be settled on the heirs of Geo.Nevile & Catherine Vincent. Further agreed that on death of Catherine Vincent's mother her share of the jointure to be likewise sold and estates purchased settled on heirs of Geo.Nevile & Catherine Vincent.

Nevile to discharge debt of £1100 incurred by Catherine Nevile of Thorney in bringing up Catherine Nevile, spinster. Catherine Nevile quitclaims all demands on estate of her late father, Geo.Nevile.

In consideration of marriage of Rev. Saml. Coates and his present wife, Susannah, for £600 and to provide for female and younger children of Rev. Saml. Coates and his wife, Rev. Saml. Coates to Thos. Vincent of Barnbrough Grange the "Dovehouse" (capital messuage) with outbuildings, gardens and appurts. in Owram, Yorks., and closes, lands, pastures and other property of Rev. Saml. Coates belonging to it, lately purchased by Rev. Coates from John Lister to use of Rev. Coates and wife, Susannah, for life and then equally between their daughters. and younger sons provided daughter Susannah has not inherited paper mill in Duffield settled in tail on her mother.
