Rokeby of Hotham and Ackworth Park

After the dissolution, Thundercliffe Grange was bought by one of the family of Rokeby. Henry Wombwell of Thundercliffe Grange married Anna Rokeby, daughter of Thomas Rokeby of Thundercliffe Grange. Their son Nicholas Wombwell of Thundercliffe Grange (1506-1571) married Isabel Wentworth(d.1593), daughter of Thomas Wentworth of Wentworth Woodhouse.

In a stained glass window at St. Mary's Church was an effigy of the Rokeby's: Alexander, Thomas of Richmondshire, William and John.

Thomas Rokeby of Mortham had a daughter, Jane, who married Francis Wycliffe about 1590.

Anne, daughter of Ralph Rokeby, secretary of the Council of the North, married 16 July 1614, to John Hotham; she died about 1624.

Notes re Christopher Legard of Hessle who married Mary Rokeby of North Cave: He was the son of Robert Legard, of Anlaby, by Ann, daughter of William Daniell, of Beswick. Mary was daughter of William Rokeby, of Hotham, by Dorothy, daughter of William Rokeby, of Skiers, and was buried at Kirk Ella, 28 Oct., 1651.

Philip Rokeby married Jane daughter of William Godfrey of Thonock. Children:Joseph, Philip, Nathaniel, Catherine.

Notes re William Rokeby and Frances Hickman: He was son of William Rokeby, of Hotham, by Dorothy Rokeby. He was created a baronet 29 January 1660-1. She was daughter of Sir William Hickman, of Gainsborough. They married in 1624 and were both buried at Wentworth.
