A Thomas Herang the younger of Maltby, husbandman, married on 28 May 1632 to Elienor Bartholomewe of New Milne, Parish of Maltby, spinster.Source Sheffield Archives Reference: CM/1773. In 1633 the same Thomas was referred to as Thomas Herringe of Sandbecke when he sold land at Bawtry, which was formerly Queen Elizabeth's . Reference: CM/1775 . Stephen Bartholomewe (deceased before 1632) of Bawtre, was a boatman and Peter - a waterman.

James Herring was born about 1557 in Hooton Levitt, Maltby. He married Alice (b.1561 H.Levitt) about 1582 in Maltby. Children, all born Hooton Levitt:

The will of Richard Herring of Newark, gent:

To wife Arabella and her heirs, all messuages and lands in Kirton and North Scarle Lincs. and messuage and garden and house in Baldertongate, Newark, and reversion of a close in Cliffe Nook, Newark, purchased from William Bettison. To wife for her life, all lands in Balderton, Clay Closes in Newark, then to Samuel Twentyman of Newark, mercer, subject to payment of £800 to S.T.'s sister, Martha, wife of Rev. Hugh Wade of Newark, clerk, and payments of debts.

To wife for life, messuages and real estate in Throapham alias Thropon Yorks., and then to niece Arabella, wife of Rev. J. Ridghill of Welbourn Lincs.

To wife Arabella, all lands in Caunton for life, then to Rev. Childers Twentyman of Lincoln, clerk, and John Welby of South Muskham, gent., subject to payment of £400 to cousin Captain Thomas Groves or Greaves.
