Portofino
Portofino lies on the Tigullio gulf in this picturesque corner of Italy.
This area captures all the things you associate with Italian life, deep blue sea, mountains, greenery, chic cafes, bars and lots of designer shopping
The marina is full of expensive yachts and the pastel coloured houses provide a perfect back-drop to it all.
There are lots of watersport facilities in the resort, or if you like just relax on the beach.
The town offers lots of opportunities for a wander. Narrow streets house small, exclusive boutiques and craft shops. Portofino is a perfect place for sitting in a pavement cafe and watching the world go by.
The Tigullio gulf is not without its history too. The area has seen many wars with the Romans dating back to 2nd and 3rd BC.
In 1805 Napolean took the area under French rule, however this was to last only 10 years before the congress of Vienna decreed it should be handed back to the province of Genoa. In time this became a part of a unified Italy.
NB Author's comment.
The prices in Portofino tend to be higher than those that UK visitors are normally accustomed to...!!
