Hardwick was part of the Parish of Wales, it was described as having interesting farms, including Nickerwood Farm, a picturesque pond, and ancient paved packhorse path.

Jordan de Herdwik ( Hardwick) was mentioned in ancient deeds relating to the area, and on 14 Nov 1305 John de Herdwyck is recorded in deeds relating to Todwick

Thomas Wortley and his wife Joanna were listed in the 1379 Poll Tax for Aston, and Thomas Wortley was of Hardwick in 1419 when the Yorkshire Inquisitions record William Wasteneys holding land at Hardwick.

Also in Aston Poll Tax of 1379: Robertus de Herdewyk and Alicia de Hardwyk.

In 1474 Joan, daughter of a Wortley of Hardwick married Thomas Bosville of Conisbrough

In 1620 Hardwick was part of estate owned by John Lord Darcy in Aston,
