Scanned ExtractIt appears, in the 30 year of Elizabeth 1. that Stephen Malovel gave a Messuage two hundred and sixty Acres of Land, and seven of Meadow in Renetone nigh Worksop to Alice, the wife of Ranulph de Huntingfeld, who bound himself to John de Melsa in C. Marks by a Statute Merchant, and failing in payment the Sheriff caused the Land to be extended at a reasonable price, viz. 4l. 9s. 1d. and put the said Iohn in seisin, in which he stood for a year and more, until the said Ranulph and Alice disseised him,etc. Upon this came William de Dogmerfeld, who said he was the Kings Bayliff of his Mannor of Mansfield, and that Renetone was a member of the Kings said Mannor, and the Tenements put in view, Ancient Demesne, ertc. In this are Recorded very many of the Customs of Mansfeld, which shows that they are as like Freeholders as Copyholders can be.
