John Hewett(1690–1757)

John Hewett was the grandson of Dr. John Hewett(1603–1658) and son of Rev. John Hewett.

He was Rector of Harthill from 1717 to 1757

He succeeded his father John, who became rector in 1695.

According to IGI, he married Ann Bailey of Harthill on 10th June, 1722 at Saint Stephen And Saint Benet Sherehog, London. They had two children:

Matthew Hewyt christened on 20 May 1725

On 25th April, 1757 the Reverend died at the age of 68, he was buried at Harthill and succeeded by his son. Source: Biographical Register of Christ's College, 1505-1905, by John Peile, John Archibald Venn - 1913. Page 193

He had been employed at this time by Thomas, Duke of Leeds.

An Elizabeth Hewett married in Tinsley 20 Feb 1764 to John Graunt, they had several children Sarah, George, Mary, John, Richard, William and Robert. Elizabeth was buried on 14 Jan 1827 aged 89 years at Harthill. This would make her born about 1738. At the time of her marriage her abode was Tinsley.

On her son's - William Graunt- christening record of 1778 it states the mother as, Elizabeth daughter of John Hewett. Read More »
