Clarell
The Clarells were in Aldwarke in 1302 when Gilbert son of William del Hill of Dalton gave all land in Dalton previously held by Richard son of Alex. de Dalton to William Clarell of Aldwarke.
7 Feb 1301 -John de Wympton and Alice his wife, to William Clarell of Aldewerke. A piece of land at Kilnehirst, which John del Hill formerly held, known as the Upper Westeridding and abutting at one end on le Stubbing of Aldewerke, the other on the Lower Westridding; for one silver penny a year for the first twenty years and after that for 20s. silver. Adam de Poterton, held land in Wadworth, Doncaster,was son of Rob. de Poterton who was the brother of William Clarell.
The Clarells also held lands in Tickhill in the early 13th century when John Clarell son of Geoffrey Clarell of Tickhill married Matilda daughter of Roger Capre.
Clarell Hall, in Tickhill was the seat of the Clarells, probably built by John Clarell, Dean of Southwell in 1266.
Sir William Clarell was married to Agnes, daughter and heir of William Walleis. They had a son Thomas who was married to Isabella Comyn before June 1335.
Thomas was of age before 1330 when his father settled on him certain rent of tenants in Thorp, Barley and Scholes. In 1335 John Hyghe of Rotherham conveyed lands in Thorpe, Aldwark and Thrybergh to Thomas and Isabel. In 1338 he leased all of his lands in Adwick, Yorkshire except woods, certain rents and half a mill to his brother Robert for 12 years at £6 per year.
In 1341 he and Brian Thornhill, Knight, reached an agreement regarding lands in Thurlstone, Yorkshire.
William Clarell(born about 1340) of Aldwark, Adwick, Newton upon Derwent, Penistone, Yorkshire, son and heir was married to Elizabeth de Reygate, daughter of William de Reygate of Sherburn, Yorkshire. They had 2 sons, Thomas Esq., and William and a daughter Agnes. He was heir sometime before 1359 to his cousin, Sir Thomas Comyn, by which he had inherited the Manor of Ulceby, Lincolnshire. His wife Elizabeth (c.1375) by which she inherited the Manors of Stiveton-in Sherburn and Woodhall near Milford Yorkshire. William died before 1379/80. Elizabeth re-married before 1382/3 to Thos. de Ledes of Steeton.
William. Clarell of Tickhill, was the son of Rob. de Aldewerk.
Rob. Clarel, son of Roger Tickhill, and his wife Isabella were in Tickhill in 1334.
Thomas Clarell born about 1375 England, married Elizabeth Scrope who was born about 1379 at Upsall, Yorkshire; she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Strathbogie) Scrope. It is believed she died March 8th, 1430
Their daughter and heir Elizabeth Clarell born about 1432-33 of Aldwark, Yorkshire, who died April 23, 1503 She married in about 1447 to Richard FitzWilliam of Aldwarke. Richard was son of Edmund Fitzwilliam (d.1465) of the Wadworth branch of the family and like his father acted as constable of Conisbrough Castle. Their son Sir Thomas FitzWilliam, of Aldwarke, married Lady Lucy Nevill, daughter and co-heiress, living 1530.
Richard Fitzwilliam, Knight of Wadworth, Yorkshire, and in right of his wife, of Aldwarke, Birkby and Haldenby, Yorkshire and hereditary patron of Austin Friars, Tickhill, Sherriff of Yorkshire. He married before 1448 to Elizabeth Clarell, daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Clarell of Aldwark by Elizabeth Scrope. They had 7 sons and 5 daughters:

Elizabeth was heiress to her sister Maud Ughtred, by which she inherited her sister's share of the Clarell estates.
Sir Richard Fitzwilliam died September, 1479. Elizabeth died May 1503. Elizabeth was buried next to her husband at Tickhill friary where her Clarell ancestors were also buried
Tickhill.
Pre-nuptial settlement
19 Jan 1410 - John Fitzwilliam to Thomas Clarell. In consideration of a marriage to be had between John, son and heir of John Fitzwilliam, and Margaret, daughter of Thomas Clarell, it is agreed that Thomas shall pay 450 marks to John, the father, in stated instalments and that John, the father, will convey to Thomas the manor of Derthyngton (Darrington?) with all its appurtenances in Derthyngton and Wentebrigg. For 10 years or until the marriage and then to the use of John the younger and Margaret, his wife, and their heirs, to hold from John, the father, at an annual rent of 20s. If John the younger dies within 4 years of the marriage then John Fitzwilliam's second son, Nicholas, is to marry Margaret, and they are to hold the property on the same terms.
It is recorded that one of the members of the Clarel family of Aldwarke bequeathed to the Church of All Saints in Rotherham, a stained cloth depicting the celebrated joust between Anthony Woodville and the Bastard of Burgundy, which took place before Edward IV at Smithfield in 1467. Reference: CD/2
