Francis Godolphin D'Arcy Osborne

Francis Godolphin D'Arcy Osborne, Duke of Leeds, Marquess of Carmarthen, Earl of Danby, Viscount Latimer of Danby, Baron Osborne of Kiveton, and Baron Conyers of Hornby Castle, Viscount Dunblaine, Perth, was born 21st May, 1798 and summoned to Parliament by writ, June, 1838, and placed in his fathers Barony of Osborne of Kiveton, but succeeded to the Dukedom on his father's death on 19th July.

He married on 24th April, 1828 to Louisa Catharine, daughter of Richard Caton of Maryland, Esq., widow of Sir Fenton Elwill Bathurst-Hervey, and sister of the Marchioness Wellesley.

He was summoned to the House of Lords during his father's lifetime by the family Barony of Osborne, of Kiveton, but succeeded to the ducal honours within a month, in July, 1838. In early life he served a short time in the army. In 1846 he was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the North York Militia (Rifles). In politics he was a Whig, but didn't take an active part in political affairs.

He died at the Clarendon Hotel, London, of diphtheria, aged 60. He was succeeded by his cousin, Lord Godolphin, eldest son of the first Lord Godolphin, elder brother of the late Duke's father.
