A William Watson of Bolton-on-Dearne was married to Elizabeth Kent on 19th July 1706. He drowned in an attempt to save John Savile and was buried at Bolton-on-Dearne on 13 October 1717.
John Savile(1644-1717) of Methley, was lost in a draw-well in the court of the White Bear, at Wakefield. It was left uncovered, and he fell into it on a dark night. There were several gentlemen at the inn, one of whom, Mr. Watson, swung down by the rope in the hope of saving Mr. Savile. Both got into the bucket, but while they were ascending, the rope broke, and they were drowned.
