Nodder of Attercliffe and Handsworth Woodhouse

(1549) September 5th 1549, The Will ofJohn Nodder of Attercliffe, Sheffield, hardwareman, proved 23rd April 1550 at York ; directed that he should be buried in the churchyard of Sheffield and for his mortuary according to the King's Acts. Testator gave to his mother 44s, to his brother Thomas his best rayment: jackett, dublet, hoise, sherte, bonett, shois, with his purse and girdle;; he appointed his wife Elizabeth and his two sons John and Umfra executors, and Roger Seccarie, Thomas Parker, Edmunde Wilkynson and John Worall supervisors.

John Nodder (1580-1655) of Handsworth Woodhouse married Catherine Booth (b1583) daughter of John Booth and Ann (1558-1597) Revel, in December 1602 at Handsworth Woodhouse. Children of John and Ann Nodder:

John Nodder, acquired the New Hall Manor of Ashover, in 1797, by his marriage with Jemima Fiddler (whose mother was Jemima Bourne)
Lawrence Bourne, Vicar of Dronfield, married a Gregson, and died without issue in 1797, when the issue of his sister, Jemima, by her husband, the Rev. George Fidler, of Shirland, became heirs to the Bourne estates. The issue of Jemima was a daughter and namesake, who married John Nodder, of Chesterfield.
John Nodder of Chesterfield married Jemima, daughter of George Fidler of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, butcher in about 1780. They had two daughters and a son. Mary died at the age of 17 in 1797, and George Francis at the age of 14 in 1815. The second daughter, Catherine Elizabeth lived to the age of 32. She passed away in 1830. John had an older brother, who attained the rank of Captain Bright Nodder. He died in 1822 at the age of 75.
Notes re Jemima: V. Lawrenie, vicar of Dronfield, married to Miss Gregson, died in 1797. His sister Jemima, by her husband George Fuller of Shirland, then became heir to the Bourne estates at Ashover
Rev. Joseph Nodder, rector of Ashover Parish Derbyshire, from 1835 to 1878 married in 1847 to Mary Anne Fletcher(1817-1895), daughter of a Chesterfield physician, Dr. George Fletcher. Children of Joseph and Mary:

- Jemima Catherine who married Arthur John Challiss in 1894.
John Bourne Nodder (1853-1941),Rector of Ashover from 1878 to July 1941. He married Margaret E.M. Colmore at Moseley, Worcs. They had three children:

- Olive Marguerite (Daisy) who married Dr. J. M. Benson . They had two sons Noel and Brian Benson

1714 April 17th, in the 13th year of Anne. Probate of the Will of Ruth Buckston of Duke street without Bishopsgate in the old Artilery ground in the City of London widow, the will being dated 10th June 1713; whereby she bequeathed to John Nodder of Hasleforth Derby gentleman, her nephew, her messuage with appurtenances in Duke street, then in the occupation of Arthur Mainering gentleman, with remainder to his heirs, and failing heirs, to Ruth wife of John Heald junior, Anne, Elizabeth, and Martha Nodder, sisters of the above John ; to Ruth Hall, daughter of Philip Hall of the parish of Bishopsgate £20, to be paid on her twenty first birthday, and a silver porringer and spoon marked R.H.; to Elizabeth daughter of Michael Mitchell of the same parish 20s for a mourning ring ; and the residue to John Nodder whom she constituted executor. Witnesses: Jos Gilding, Damer Moffitt, Elizabeth Gilding, Mary Gilding.

1714 - In the case between John Wright, infant, and Charles Pott, Richard Bagshaw, Benjamin Ashton and John Nodder concerning the extension of the lead mines from Grinlow under Wright's close belonging to the plaintiff. Endorsed with a copy of agreement between Philip Sheldon and Thomas Middleton concerning a right of way on the Rakey Pingle at Eyam. March, 1729/30.

8 Jul 1751 - Jonathan Oxley of Leam, Isaac Nodder of Handsworth Woodhouse and other partners in a leadmine called Maiden Rake in Little Hucklow liberty agree to work an engine shaft at the said mine.
Correspondence dated 1756 from J Dalton, South Audley Street London to John Nodder at Sharrow Head, Sheffield concerning the possible purchase of Staniforth Farm. 'I can with ease make the purchase of Mr Staniforth's estate but I don't think the land to be good - if I were to be induced to buy it, it would be for working my coal in Lee's Farm'
1756 - John Nodder of Sharrow Head, Sheffield, gentleman, and Isaac Nodder of Handsworth Woodhouse, gentleman, devisees of John Nodder, their late father, to William Hill of Tideswell, miner. The Widow Yard and the dwellinghouse late of Elias Eyre, both in Tideswell. For £240

In 1802 Joseph Cecil of Dronfield House, sole devisee of Elizabeth Rotherham, deceased, conveyed to John Nodder of Marsh Green, Ashover. Two undivided eighth parts of messuages and closes in Gleadless, to enable Nodder to make out a clear and undisputed title to the whole property. Deed cites will of Elizabeth Rotheram and of Joseph Fenton (1725) and traces the descent of the 2/8 part from Fenton, Elizabeth Rotheram being daughter of Elizabeth, sole heir of John Fenton who was brother and devisee of Joseph.
6 Aug 1787. Wood and Cruso, exors. of late George Milnes to John Nodder of Cutthorpe, Derbs., esq. Sale of stock and implements and lease of Dunston House and farm at £98.7.6d. p.a. for yearly tenancy.
Joseph Nodder (b1840), was an Electro Plate Manufacturer in 1881,employing 10 Men, 6 Women, 3 Boys and 4 Girls. Born in Sheffield, he married Harriet also from Sheffield. Children: (all living in Fir Street Sheffield.)

In 1881, Charles Nodder, age 43, an Estate Agent, was living at 20 Beech Hill Rd,Ecclesall Bierlow, with his wife Eliza age 37, and children: Walter C. and Edith M.
