Willelmus de Mora is listed in the Handsworth Lay Subsidies (1297) and Adam de More in the Bradfield Lay Subsidies. In 1397 William de Mora had land at Braithwell.
More Hall in Bolsterstone stood in a valley near the River Don with Views of Wharncliffe Woods.
In 1597, Francis Towers of Hayton, Nottinghamshire, grandson of William Towers and Dorothy More, one of six daughters and co-heirs of Thomas More, the last More to reside at More Hall, sold the place to George Blount of Eckington for £400. George Blount was the eldest son of Robert Blount, one of twenty children of Sir Thomas Blount of Kinlet, Shropshire.
In 1727 Nicholas Steade, son of Thomas Steade of Onesacre, died while in possession of More Hall. It passed to his son, Thomas and his son Nicholas resided on the estate. About 1798 More Hall was sold to Mr. Samuel Deakin of Sheffield, a merchant.
