Bright of Whirlow Hall

Whirlow Hall is another ancient freehold inheritance of the Bright family within the Manor of Ecclesall. It stands near the edge of the Parish of Sheffield, not far from Dore where many of the Bright family resided. They were settled at Whirlow as early as the time of Elizabeth I and probably before.

Pedigree of Bright of Whirlow Hall Sheffield

This estate did not remain with the Bright family; the father of the last Henry Bright sold Whirlow Hall and the estate. It passed into the hands of John Statham of Tideswell who sold it in 1725 to the Hollis Family, for the endowment of their hospital, for the sum of £1900.
