A Bertha BIRKS (1804-1886) m. John GARLAND of Netherwood Hall. She was the daughter of John Birks, the Yorkshire lawyer who was uncle to the Canadian Birks.

Henry Birks, businessman specializing in the sale of gold and silver articles (high quality), and philanthropist, b.1840 in Montreal, son of John Birks, a pharmacist, and Anne Massie.

Henry's parents were from BARNSLEY, Yorkshire, they emigrated to Canada in 1832. Before leaving, John Birks had signed a contract to work for a firm in Montreal, where he soon opened up a pharmacy.

Charles BIRKS m. Elizabeth Children:

Charles was living at Boston Castle in 1851, a Stone Mason he was born in Thorpe Hesley in 1814. By 1881 he was retired and living at Boston Terraace with his wife Elizabeth who was born about 1814 in Doncaster, and their daughter Fanny, unmarried, born in 1857.
