Cyclops Steelworks Sheffield dated from 1842 when Messrs. Johnson & Cammell who had started a small business, moved to this site near the railway. Their initial output was a ton a week and 20 years later they employed 3000. Later Charles Cammell & Co.

Rotherham Ironworks: G & J. Brown.
Manufacturers of the Patent Solid Iron Tyres for locomotive engines, tenders, carriages and wagons, also of general forgings, best scrap bars and rods, boiler plates, sheet iron etc. These works were established by Joshua Walker & Co. for the manufacture of maleable iron only. On their declining business it came into the hands of Liversidge and Crownshaw (Stephen Liversidge was a farmer from Thrybergh), and afterwards of Messrs. Knowles and Brown, Brown and Sons, and lastly of G. and J. Brown when the works were enlarged considerably The Works were formerly driven by water-power. There were six water wheels initially, followed by four steam engines.

Beatson Clark Glass Works established 1751 by John Wright. John Beatson of Emley bought the glassworks for son William who began trading in 1783. In 1822 trading as Beatson & Close (William married into the Close family), Close & Clark in 1828-1841 (William's daughter married John Graves Clark of Hull), still trading as Beatson Clark. Originally a manufacturer of glass containers for the pharmaceutical industry, diversified into the Food & Beverage markets during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
