Will you play a part in the local radio revolution?

SheffieldLiveRotherham folk are getting the unique opportunity to be part of the biggest shake-up to the local airwaves in decades.

Sheffield Live! 93.2, covering Sheffield and Rotherham, will be the first full time FM local radio station to launch since the 1970s when it is unveiled later this month. It is a dedicated community radio station and it is putting out the call out for local people to get involved.

Sheffield Live! 93.2 will be mainly run by trained volunteers, and will become the Sheffield's third local FM radio station - alongside BBC Radio Sheffield and Hallam FM.

Sheffield Live! 93.2 has previously run short term broadcasts and has built a reputation for providing a platform for local bands, global music, literary talent and programming in many different languages – it also runs a full-time, Internet broadcast.

Broadcasting to over 350,000 people in Sheffield and Rotherham, Sheffield Live! 93.2 is keen to hear from budding presenters, producers, administrators or simply from anyone that is keen to get into radio. Sheffield Live! runs regular media training courses and has already trained over 200 new community radio broadcasters.

The station is a dream come true for Sangita Basudev - chief executive of Sheffield Live! 93.2 - who has lobbied for a dedicated community-based radio station broadcasting 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, since 1998.

Sangita Basudev said: "Sheffield Live! 93.2 will offer a true alternative to existing stations and we’re keen to hear from any member of the community that has ever considered get involved in radio to get in touch with us.

“We want peoples’ ideas, their enthusiasm and commitment to providing a true voice for all communities in the city and surrounding region.

“The station will provide a platform for up-and-coming new music, writing and performance talent and be a springboard for new DJs and radio staff.”
