Lakeside Village Celebrates Charity Success Like No Other
2010 saw Lakeside Village smash targets and all previous records by raising a staggering £52,595 for local charities, which has helped to change countless lives across the county!
The monthly fundraising activity Bag it up for Bluebell Wood saw one of the biggest increases in generosity with 1,330 charity bags being donated to the Bluebell Wood Childrens hospice raising an incredible £19,950. This is more than double the amount collected in 2009 and has helped to support local children.
Activity over the festive period also contributed to the charity funds with generous shoppers and staff donating 420 gifts to the Junior Chamber International Secret Santa Appeal, adding a touch of magic to the local people in need from the YWCA, Local Authority and Women's Aid.
Brave shoppers and staff have also taken to saving lives at the village after they donated 300 units of blood in 2010. Regular bloodmobile sessions held at Lakeside Village Outlet will ensure up 900 peoples lives will be improved or saved and is set to continue to rise in 2011.
Throughout 2010, Lakeside Village sponsored a different local charity each month to ensure people from all walks of life benefit from the generosity of staff and shoppers. Marie Curie Cancer Care, Macmillan Cancer Support, Lions Club International, Back Ben Parkinson, Help for Heroes, Guide Dogs, RSPCA, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Safe at Last are just a few of those supported.
The range of fundraising activity at the centre has also been creative, providing shoppers and staff with a whole array of entertainment that really adds to the Lakeside Village experience. Locals took part in a 6 hour Spin-a-thon for Back Ben Parkinson and Help for Heroes with the Fitness Village at the Dome, shoppers got to meet a dalek with the Dr Who Day with Hyde Fundraisers and over 70 people braved freezing conditions to spend the night sleeping out at Lakeside Village for Safe at Last.
Shoppers have also taken part in a Daffodil Walk around the Lake for Marie Curie Cancer Care, sponsored another puppy with Guide dogs, and even recycled textiles and shoes to raise money for charity.
Commenting on the shopping outlet's achievement, Cheryl Sadler, Centre Manager said: 'We are simply overwhelmed with the success of our fundraising in 2010. To increase the amount raised in 2009 is more than we could have ever hoped for and we're so proud of shoppers and staff due to their consistent generosity and enthusiasm. On behalf of ourselves and all of the charities I would like to say, 'A Big Thank You' to everyone who has been involved and we only hope that 2011 sees another increase in how many lives we can change'.
