The Rotherham Hospice
The Rotherham Hospice Appeal was launched in March 1988 by a small group of individuals, including local GP's, who had the vision of providing hospice care in Rotherham.
In late 1993 the development of the new service began, and in February 1994 the Rotherham Day Hospice was commissioned. At that time the present site was offered to the Trustees by Rotherham Borough Council. It is a lovely site, with panoramic views over Rotherham and beyond and, although situated on a busy main road, is quiet and peaceful.
The building of the hospice commenced in May 1995 and was completed in June 1996 and on 1 September 1997, the Inpatient Unit was commissioned.
Mission Statement
- The Rotherham Hospice Team are committed to patients requiring palliative care during the changing phases of their illness.
- We will enable patients to maintain their identity and independence, whilst we also support their family, friends and carers.
The Rotherham Hospice provides palliative care for those patients suffering from life-threatening illnesses, and support for their families, friends and carers.
There is accommodation for up to 15 day patients daily five days a week, and for up to 8 inpatients in bedrooms with ensuite facilities.
The greater part of the £1.3 million revenue costs comes from fundraising and our own £1 a week lottery, and this is supported by monies from the Rotherham PCT.
We are grateful for the support from the people of Rotherham as, without them, the hospice could not continue to provide high quality care and support.
