Rotherham Diversity Festival
The Rotherham Cultural Group are proud to bring you the Diversity Festival 2013 as part of the Rotherham Show this September, 7th & 8th September, in Clifton Park.
Organised by dedicated volunteers and part funded through the Arts Council- Yorkshire, our project co-ordinator, Sameer Butt with assistance from Satnam Singh, has put together an amazing line up for the stage, and we have been working with REMA to support a variety of voluntary and cultural groups with stalls and activities running for the whole weekend.
Headliners for the Saturday at 4.45pm will be the Bhangra dance and music group, Gabhru Punjab De, who have been delighting audiences for 25 years with their folk dances from the Punjab. You can see more of their work on the web . The main act for Sunday at 4.50pm will be Gypsi Prievidra, a group of young musicians from Prievidra in western Slovakia. This talented band not only play traditional eastern european gypsy music, but can turn their hand to more contemporary sounds too.
We have been working with different groups in communities to create some amazing large carnival structures and costumes and puppets, on the theme of Making the World Anew, in line with the ethos of the festival and to celebrate the different cultures living in Rotherham. You will be able to see these new creations too. ROAR will be trundling their WHAT MAW MACHINE? Structure round the festival- a curio for you to discover, and we welcome back the wonderful Colourscape structure with a programme of entertainment within.
There is plenty more to see on the main stage, dance groups, singers and performers of all kinds for your delight, so make sure you come and find us, and enjoy a rich cultural smorgasbord of talent in Rotherham.
