Rawmarsh set to 'Rock' as 'BEANFEST' 2011 gets bigger and better

Rotherham Beanfest Poster Eighteen bands are set to play a FREE local music festival in Rotherham on the 2nd July 2011 at the Star inn on Rawmarsh Hill, the aim is to surpass the fantastic achievement of Beanfest 2010, and it promises to be an event that will truly put Rotherham on the map.

' Beanfest is organised in the memory of Rob ‘Bean’ Crook who tragically died in 2010 and aims to raise funds in aid of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice where last year over £5000 was raised for Rotherham’s local Children’s Hospice.

The success of last years event has seen a clamber of bands wanting to play the festival and the line up so far boasts over 18 bands, playing across two stages with a wide range of styles on offer from Rock to Metal to Dance, Beanfest is tailored to everyone’s festival needs, providing an amazing atmosphere while raising money for Bluebell wood. The festival includes music from headliners - Jilted Generation - the world’s only Prodigy tribute band and Rage against the Bean (Local RATM tribute) . Also confirmed in the line up – The East Street Band (Springsteen tribute), Swindon’s – In the Absence of Light, local rockers – Disarm and completing the line up - Mask of Virtue, View from S62, Troika, Doused, Montuno, Leather Zoo, Steel Trees, Massacre of Megafauna, Sporadic Slaughter, Diamond Velocity + Kitty Fly, Burden + Goatleaf.

The festival is free entry and aims to raise cash through voluntary donations, sponsorship, raffles and events. Children are allowed at the outside stage.

The live music starts at 12pm and finishes around 12am – each performance will be around 30 minutes. All the bands, artists, helpers and organisers have donated their time free of charge.

Rob ‘Bean’ Crook The ‘Star’ ( High Street, Rawmarsh) run by Chris and Klair Thompson has a history of running successful festivals but the interest in ‘Bean Fest’ has taken them by surprise. Chris added: "The beneficiary Bluebell Wood was chosen by Bean’s parents Dorothy and Dennis Crook, who both hope the event will raise serious cash and that the festival can make a real difference for children in South Yorkshire."

Sarah Champion, Chief Executive, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice said "We’d like to thank Bean Fest for supporting Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice for a second year. After the success of the first year of Beanfest, we are hoping local people will get involved again with this fantastic festival. It costs over £2.5 million every year to care for children and young adults in this region with a shortened life expectancy. The hospice receives no statutory government funding, and without our supporters and events like Bean Fest, we would not be able to help as many children as we do.”

Festival organiser and one of Beans closest friends, lead guitarist for both Rage against the Bean and The East Street Band Simon ‘Soggy’ Hartley said "This festival means so much to so many people and the attendance and atmosphere makes the day unforgettable, The interest in bands this year has been phenomenal and many bands have had to be turned away. We have the local areas top live bands and accompanied by a few national bands it should be the best festival Rotherham has seen for decades."

Donations and pledges are also welcome; these can be made via Just Giving
