The Airbus A380 Super Jumbo
The Airbus A380 'super-jumbo' is due to make its European commercial debut when a flight from Singapore lands at London's Heathrow airport today, 18th March, 2008.
Rotherham-based engineering consultancy Bennett Associates won a top award in September, 2004, from the prestigious Institute of Materials for its contribution to the development of the Airbus A380 'super-jumbo', which made it's first flight in 2005.
Bennett Associates, based at Pleasley Road, Whiston was appointed by Airbus UK to design the tooling and handling systems for the wing skins and project-manage their construction and installation at the purpose built facility at the Airbus site at Broughton, Chester where more than 5000 people are employed. This equipment cost £7.7 million.
Headed by Managing Director, Nick Cooper, M G Bennett & Associates, since its formation more than 20 years ago, has developed into a multi-discipline engineering design company involved in major projects across a variety of fields on a world-wide basis. These include Channel Tunnel, Gateshead Millennium Bridge , Goole Swing Bridge and the Torquay Pedestrian Footbridge, which, we might add, proved safe when an elderly couple got lost and twice drove their car over the footbridge!
