Hellaby
A Medieval village, visible as earthworks, consisting of house platforms, enclosure and ridge and furrow, was excavated in 1991. Hellaby Industrial Estate.
In 1822 - in the township of Stainton-with-Hellaby, and parish of Stainton, upper-division of Strafforth and Tickhill; 5 miles from Rotherham, 6 from Tickhill. population included in Stainton. Here is situated the ancient mansion of Hellaby Hall, a farmhouse.
Ralph Fretwell of Hellaby, bp Sheffield 23 June 1631. Will 9 Aug 1701. m. Mabel Saunderson. A devoted Quaker, who made his money as the owner of sugar plantations in Barbados. He built Hellaby Hall in 1692
